4.3. Using iPhone and iPad together

Maps that you've bought through the ViewRanger store or from a retailer for another phone can be used on the iPhone and iPad or visa-versa.

If you have already purchased ViewRanger from iTunes you do not need to re-purchase ViewRanger for anouther Apple device such as the iPad. Use your iTunes to restore ViewRanger onto the iPad. And visa-versa; already purchased for iPad, no need to re-purchase for iPhone.
When you run the app, it will prompt you to sign in.

Map credit

Any ViewRanger map credit balance you have is held on your account and can be used on any device or at my.viewranger.com

Getting your maps

Ensure you are connected to wifi.  Use the app to restore you map packages, tiles, custom maps and saved maps use Menu tab (in green bar), My maps and tap My maps tab.

But it you don't have wifi here is how to copy the maps over using iTunes.

Step by Step Copying Maps using iTunes

Copy the maps off the first device

Copy the maps onto the second device

Load the maps on the device

Sharing data between devices

The best way to share route route data between devices is via my.viewranger.com The full track data can only be shared via GPX file (see related page) at this time and not via my.viewranger.com. You can upload a track to my.viewranger.com then convert it to a route and download it on the other device but this does loose a lot of the detail.

Unlicensed Maps

If after doing the above you have unlicensed maps in Menu tab, My maps:

When you download a map over the air it is put into the Maps/DownloadedMaps folder.
If you download a package, it will be unpacked into a sub-folder in Maps.
You can export and upload your maps to the iPhone/iPad using iTunes file sharing. If sending a number of maps it may be best to ZIP up your maps and send them across in one go. We recommend you keep each ZIP file under 1GB in size.
