Maps that you've bought through the ViewRanger store or from a retailer for another phone can be transferred to the iPhone or iPad. (In this article references to the iPhone apply equally to the iPad.)

Software
First buy and install the ViewRanger software from the Apple app store - that's the only way to install software on the iPhone/iPad. Two versions are available:
- Open - this is the cheapest. It gives unlimited access to Open Street and Cycle mapping. You can also use existing ViewRanger premium maps with this version, or can purchase premium mapping (such as maps from Ordnance Survey, National Geographic, IGN and BKG) in-app.
- Premium - like the Open version, but includes a full token's worth of premium mapping credit. See the What's Included? article for details of the map areas you can download with the Premium credit.
- USA - includes credits of map and route credit, allowing you to download detailed maps and routes. Also includes access to Open Street and Cycle Maps. This edition only allows access to USA maps, plus Open and Bing maps. See the What's Included? article for details of the map areas you can download with the Premium credit.
If you have already purchased ViewRanger for the iPhone you do not need to re-purchase ViewRanger for a new iPhone or iPad. Either use iTunes to restore ViewRanger onto the new device, or use the app store to install.
Activation / License key (self service via my.viewranger.com)
If the map is already activated on another phone then, if not already done so, please register with my.viewranger.com. If you need more help with login to my.viewranger.com please see these instructions. Once you have registered successfully you can generate your own new license keys for the new device as follows:
- On the new device in ViewRanger go into Organizer
Settings > Account and license > Account sign in and enter your my.viewranger.com credentials and press submit. Choose the Add this device option (note: this option is not available if you have reached your maximum device limit). The device will synchronize with my.viewranger.com and the license key list is updated.
Activation / License key (via email to support)
If the map is already activated on another phone then please email support to get a new license key. Please include the iPhone's UDID and the email address you used to first activate.
You can get the UDID as follows:
- Run iTunes and connecting your iPhone. Click on the device on the left hand side column. In the main window look at the Summary tab. Towards the top you'll see a line saying "Serial:" followed by a short string - click on it so it changes to "Identifier (UDID)" followed by a long string, then use the copy short cut Ctrl-C or Apple key-C. When you paste into the email you should get the 40 character UDID matching what is displayed in iTunes.
Copying maps to the iPhone
You can upload your maps to the phone using the iTunes Documents. If sending a number of maps it may be best to ZIP up your maps and send them across in one go. We recommend you keep each ZIP file under 1GB in size.
