6. Version 4.2 release notes
Version 4.2 of ViewRanger was released in November 2013.
Map and purchase related:
- Support for map subscriptions.
- Improved "Create saved map" - counts errors and retries tiles that failed first time.
- If viewing premium maps and then choosing (Menu > Organizer > Maps > Online maps > OpenStreetMap), 'Create saved map' no longer puts the app into tile download mode (bug fix).
Tracks & GPS:
- Statistics in the stopwatch(es) on the map now appear when the GPS is running, not just when a track is recording.
- Statistics in the stopwatch(es) appear even if tracks are started with auto-record (bug fix).
- Tracks are no longer hidden when they are stopped. They are hidden when the next track is started.
Navigation:
- The navigation arrow over the map could be slow to update (bug fix).
- If the triggered alarm is a linked audio file (rather than a sound in settings), the app now shows the sound play controls (bug fix).
- If you use nav arrow > Silence alarm, the menu no longer stays on screen (bug fix).
- ETE final time and next time in the trip view were incorrect (bug fix).
- If you chose a different alarm sound in settings, the wrong one was played (bug fix)
Action Bar & Map View:
- When a route is selected, the action bar now includes access to its Properties (for changing name and so on, consistent with POIs, tracks etc)
- "Route from track" when accessed from the action bar now works (bug fix).
- Improved performance of on-map altitude display when using Mercator based maps (e.g. Canary Islands)
- If the map is set to auto-rotate, the map zooms-out when returning to the map from a menu (bug fix).
Other:
- Terms, Privacy and Legal are linked from account create page, and from Help page.
- Image links that are PHP style are supported (e.g. image.png?id=123)
- Sound links that are PHP style are supported (e.g. sound.mp3?id=123)
- When searching, place names containing non-ascii characters are now displayed (bug fix).
- Drop box sub-folders can be accessed (bug fix).
- The National Grid setting no longer causes the app to crash (bug fix)
- Pop up menus, such as the map download grid scale choice, are now better sized.
- When no beacons have been added, the Options menu contains an add option in place of locate now.
- Buddy beacon links can be clicked on in the favorites section, taking you to the beacon on the map
- At first start, if no other map is available it now chooses Open Street Map, rather than leaving a white screen
iOS 7 fixes:
- Cookie problem, leading to web services not working, has been fixed.
- The buttons at the top of the trip view draw correctly.
- Buttons on the details panel on the iPad are now correct
- The top of the side bar in the iPad is now drawn correctly
